Rose

Noisy back grounds have their use in photography, however in some cases you want to draw the viewers eye to the subject and forget about the rest. The easiest way to achieve this is using a lens with a large aperture (f/1.2-f/2.8) and keep the focus on the subject.

In this case I used a 35mm f/2.0 lens, shot wide open (f/2.0). My goal in this picture was to guide the viewers eye onto the petal edges, this, to me gave the most appeal.

Equipment: Tripod, shutter release cable (or on camera timer), clips (to hold the subject in place and reduce movement caused by wind), a fast aperture lens and a camera.

Camera Setup: I set the camera to spot meter, this allowed for the Rose to be correctly exposed, the background was not a concern since it was going to be out of focus and if it was darker or blown out would not matter much. I set the white balance on daylight, and set the camera on aperture priority at f/2.0.

Post production - reduced the saturation, re-sized the picture, added copyright and saved for web.
