How to photograph a magenta sky.

Sandcastles represent summer - sunlight, fun, activity, noise, children, etc...However coming across sandcastles at the end of the day takes much of the summer excitement away.

In this case the sun was setting most of the fun, activity, noise and children on the beach had settled. I took a couple of shots of the sandcastles but they lacked emotion. The dull light reduced contrast and most of the scene appeared flat.

So I installed a magenta filter onto my wide angle lens, dropped down low to the sandcastles and metered for the scene using (matrix metering), using aperture priority (A) set to f/16 (wider depth of field) and took the shot.

The scene above still presents the summer feel, but more of the after math of a fun and active day. The cycle of commotion and tranquility.

Photoshop:  leveled the scene (horizontally) and increased the contrast/saturation.

Settings: f/16, 1/80s, ISO200
