How to Create Star Burst Images.

Star burst captures are a good way of capturing an image in its entirety as an abstract. What has worked for me many times is walking into a garden of flowers, where there is too much material to capture. I usually take a few detail shots and then start creating abstracts.

In the example below, a boring shot of flowers becomes a beautiful abstract by simply setting up the camera on manual and zooming in.

Setup: Set the camera on a tripod, focus on a colorful high contrast subject and take the shot (the first shot - Aperture mode - 1/100s, f11, ISO 100). For the second shot, keep the camera on the tripod but switch over to manual mode, set the aperture to the smallest opening possible with your lens in my case it was f32 (ISO 100), and meter for the scene. I got a shutter speed of 1/5s, this is ideal to capture movement while the shutter is pressed. Focus on the subject click the shutter button simultaneously zooming the lens in or out while the shutter is still open.
