Reverse GND Filter - Rice Picking

In my earlier post I talked about using Graduated Neutral Density (GND) filters to darken skies (Connecticut Sunset). This post is similar, in that, it talks about using the GND filter to darken the lower portion of the picture.

The harvesters were picking rice is a murky rice field. Despite the cloud cover during this shot, the contrast between the rice field and the back ground was significant. I tried multiple variations to get this picture in one shot, however it was not possible. In this case I used a 0.6 GND (2 stop) filter to darken the foreground.

How I shoot this: Use matrix metering and set the camera to manual mode. Meter for the scene and keep it fixed. Then include the GND filter with the original metered setting and take the shot. This shot was taken at f18 and 1/60s at ISO100.
