Handcrafted dies are very popular in Rajasthan. The above pictures shows detailed engravings carved out on a cross section of wood. These patterns are use in detailing fabrics like saris, bed sheets, table clothes, etc. Vibrant colors are used in the dying process.
Generally craftsmen are seen in teams of two or three carving these wooden dies, however in this case the fellow was a loner (“Wolf pack of one” – Hangover). Using only a piece of wood (hammer) and a flattened nail – as seen in the shots below, the craftsman etched out detailed patterns on his canvas of choice.
