Flare is not such a bad thing, I actually look for shots where I can shoot facing the sun, now don't get me wrong this kind of shot doesn't work on everything - depends on your style and subject matter.
In this shot, all it took was some walking around and finding a good angle and there it was.
Tip: Make sure the front of your lens is clean or you will get spots in your shot.
